Gas Consultancy Services
John joined British Gas in 1983 as a graduate engineer from Oxford University and worked in various design, operational and maintenance roles until 1990. At this point he joined the commercial department of BGE&P where he undertook a number of gas and oil sales and negotiating roles. In 1994, as Armada Project Commercial Manager, he successfully concluded arrangements for the £500 million Armada Project.
John returned to Transco as Commercial Manager, Transmission in 1994 with commercial responsibility for the National Transmission System (NTS), with supplies to gas fired power stations and the Transco LDZs
and the Interconnectors to Ireland and Belgium. From January 1996, he assumed responsibility for Network Planning Department and received BG Executive approval for £300 million of NTS expansion projects. John invented the concepts of ARCA's, Network Entry Agreements and Network Exit Agreements and led negotiations with the upstream Britannia and ETAP developments which required the increased NTS capacity.
During the MMC enquiry in 1996/7, John was responsible for the Transco Investment submission (£4 billion over 5 years) and the 'Develop the Network' (growth) operating expenditure. From November 1997, he moved into Strategic Change with responsibility for developing the 'Blueprint for Change' which detailed the reorganisation of Transco.
In July 1998 John formed BG Energy Services Limited as Managing Director, an energy and infrastructure services provider which was renamed Lattice Energy Services in 2000 when Lattice Group was de-merged from BG Group. In 2003 the opportunity arose to purchase part of the business and to continue to offer his expertise in the energy sector.
