Expander-CHP
CNG Services is pioneering the development of expander-chp projects for gas pressure reduction. High gas and electricity prices mean that 'best available technique' for gas pressure reduction is no longer a simple J-T valve. Instead, a gas expander coupled with a gas fired CHP plant is the most efficient solution.
Our services in this area are as follows:
Pre-feasibility study
- Modelling of gas flows to calculate electricity output
- Sizing of CHP plant
- Capex estimates
- Estimated CO2 savings
- Financial analysis
Feasibility study
- Electricity connection
- Plant layout
- Land issues
Conceptual Design study
- Confirm all plant sizing and layout
- Produce P&iDs
- Planning permission
- Electricity export parameters
- Tendering for major plant items (expander and CHP)
- Financial analysis and sensitivities
- CO2 savings
- Production of Project Approval Paper
Detailed design and project management
- Detailed design
- Tender for installation contractor
- Project management
Project returns are attractive and there are significant CO2 savings from high efficiency electricity generation. A project currently being built will have an efficiency of 80% (ie 100 MW of gas burnt in a gas engines will create 80 MW of electricity, almost certainly the most efficient gas fired power station in the UK)
