Ben is a Mechanical Engineer and projects professional with 8 years’ experience in the energy and utilities industries.
After graduating with a BSc Mathematical Physics, he joined DNV GL (previously Advantica) in 2010 as a Graduate Engineer on their graduate development programme. The role involved engineering consultancy, such as performance testing and defect analysis on low pressure metering assets for gas metering companies.
Through an internal transfer Ben took up a role as Project Engineer at the DNV GL Flow Centre in Durham from 2012 to 2016. He worked as part of the site management team responsible for the operation and maintenance of the high-pressure natural gas test facility. The site of about 30 staff had an approximate turnover of £3 million and he was responsible for the completion of various projects including: high-accuracy flowmeter calibration for offshore, onshore and subsea applications; erosion testing; and downhole subsea safety valve performance testing. During this time Ben completed an MSc Subsea Engineering and Management and undertook testing at the site to complete his dissertation.
In another transfer within DNV GL Ben moved to the onshore pipelines team in Newcastle between 2016 and 2017. This role was engineering consultancy for gas distribution companies which included auditing of their internal processes in gas main and service laying and surveying of their above ground site assets to provide assurance and compliance with the Pressure System Safety Regulations.
In 2017, Ben started a new role as an Integrity Engineer for Northern Gas Networks. The role provided a mix of mechanical and E&I integrity responsibilities, such as; pipeline overcrossing risk and security management, and the ongoing regulatory compliance of metering and gas quality assets. Ben was also involved in an Ofgem innovation project on potential changes to the Gas Safety (Management) Regulations.
Ben joined CNG Services Ltd in 2018 as a Project Engineer in the Biomethane to Grid connections team. He is a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and has attained a formal Project Management Qualification (PMQ [IPMA Level D]) through the Association for Project Management.
