Gas industry expertise (LNG, upstream, transportation, distribution, utilisation)
Joined British Gas as a graduate engineer in 1983 from Oxford University and worked in various design operational and maintenance roles on the National Transmission System (NTS). In 1990, he joined the commercial department of British Gas Exploration and Production where he worked in oil and gas sales and on the CATS project. In 1994, as Armada Project Commercial Manager, he concluded arrangements for the £500 million Armada Project including negotiation of gas and oil sales and joint venture agreements. He returned to Transco as Transmission Commercial Manager in 1994 with commercial responsibility for NTS, Power Stations and the Interconnectors.
In January 1996 John also assumed responsibility for Network Planning Department and secured BG Executive approval for £300 million of NTS expansion projects for 1998.
From 1998 - 2003 John was Managing Director of Lattice Energy Services (LES), building a business focused on providing utility infrastructure services including connections, conversions to gas and CHP. Following the merger in 2002 of Lattice Group and National Grid, John bought the CNG business of LES. His company, CNG Services Limited, owns and operates the UK's highest capacity CNG filling station and provides gas consultancy services.
In 2006, John worked on the Excelerate Energy Teesside GasPort project.
John is a former President of the SBGI (Society of British Gas Industries, www.sbgi.org.uk), is a Director of the Natural Gas Vehicle Association (www.ngva.co.uk) and is a member of the Biomethane for Transport Steering Committee.
