UK Green Gas Day 2026

The REA and CNG Services are pleased to convene UK Green Gas Day 2026, the UK’s foremost policy and market forum for the biomethane and the wider green gas sector. As the sector enters a pivotal year marked by significant regulatory and strategic developments, this event provides an essential platform for Government, industry and financial stakeholders to assess the policy landscape and its implications for long‑term deployment, investment and system integration.

Future Support Framework for Biomethane: Central Policy Focus for 2026

A core theme of this year’s conference will be the Government’s anticipated Future Support Framework for Biomethane consultation, expected in June 2026. This consultation will outline options for the long‑term financial structure for biomethane production beyond the current scheme timelines, and will help determine future revenue mechanisms; the rate and scale of deployment, and the integration with the wider energy system.

Given its significance for the sector, the consultation is expected to play a defining role in shaping the sector’s direction for the next decade. UK Green Gas Day 2026 will provide an early opportunity to discuss emerging considerations and policy design principles.

Policy Interdependencies Across CCUS, Transport and Gas System Resilience

The Future Support Framework sits within a broader policy ecosystem that is also being reshaped in 2026. Several key Government workstreams now underway will have a direct bearing on biomethane deployment. This event will look closely at the progress in CCUS and Non-Pipeline Transport consultation, Low emission HGV consultation, security of supply consultation, and the landscape for the grid operators following the Ofgem RIIO-3 price control decisions which has provided funding for reverse compression to create capacity. NGT will also show-case the new regime for NTS biomethane which is simple and low cost with new options for the design and build of the connection

You can also expect strategic insights from the Green Gas Taskforce with coverage of the most recent reports covering hybrid heat pumps systems with biomethane, digestate management in an expanded biomethane sector, e-methane and synthetic gas pathways; and an assessment of the whole system GVA of an expanded sector with regard to regional development, investment, jobs, etc.

These outputs will support policymakers, investors and operators in understanding how the sector can scale sustainably while delivering system‑wide benefits including displacement of LNG imports.

Technological and innovative advancements

As usual there will be a session dedicated to the novel and innovative technologies and processes that are making it easier, cheaper and quicker to produce more biomethane and benefit the wider net zero goals.
